Mathew George, CFA
Mathew heads TELUS Ventures, the venture capital arm of TELUS Corporation. He is currently a Board director of Vision Critical. Board Observer roles include: Lavastorm, Martin Dawes, Taulia, Teradici and Vigilent. Prior Board roles include Clairmail (acquired by Monitise), Checkwell Decisions (acquired by Sterling InfoSystems), Widevine (acquired by Google), Hostopia (acquired by Deluxe), Digit Wireless (acquired by Nuance), Critical Telecom (acquired by BATM), Atreus Systems (acquired by Sonus Networks), Apparent Networks (now AppNeta) and the Arts Club Theatre Company (owner of the Stanley and Granville Island stages).
Before founding TELUS Ventures in 2001, Mathew managed the global co-investment and direct private equity investment activities of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, a sovereign wealth fund. Mathew started his career with Paribas Asset Management in Paris, followed by roles in investment banking with Barclays de Zoete Wedd and Warburgs in London, New York and Paris.
Mathew holds a Master of Business Management degree from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commericiales (HEC) in Paris, with specialization in Analytical Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. His Bachelor of Technology degree is in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the Regional Engineering College, Calicut.
Mathew is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute, the Vancouver Society of Financial Analysts, IEEE and the CVCA.
Alan Strachan, P.Eng.
A founding member of TELUS Ventures, Alan is responsible for evaluating all potential investment opportunities including technology and management assessments. Alan has more than 30 years of experience in data communications, software engineering, IP and fibre optic communications. Alan has worked in network planning, data communications, major account sales, special services, TELUS Internet Services, the TELUS IP-One (managed VoIP telecom) initiative, as well as on the original DARPA project.
Alan has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering specializing in Photonics from the University of Victoria. Alan is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. He has been a member of the IEEE for over 30 years, speaking at conferences throughout the world and has held various executive positions including Chairman of the Victoria Section.
Alan sits as an Observer on the Rx Networks and Veracode Board of Directors, as well as sitting on the advisory board of the Continuing Studies Program at the University of British Columbia in Internet Administration and e-Business. Prior Board roles include Ruckus Wireless, SentitO Networks and Jajah.
Rob Peets, MBA, CFA
Robert is responsible for the evaluation of investment opportunities across a wide range of synergistic industries, as well as co-ordinating the financial analysis and valuation of prospective investment opportunities. Since joining TELUS in 2007, Robert has held positions in Consumer Product Development (Optik TV and Satellite TV) and Capital Forecasting and Governance. Prior to TELUS, he was an Assistant Vice President within the Technology Corporate Finance group at an international accounting firm and an Equity Research Analyst covering publicly listed Technology, Medical and Industrial small cap companies. Robert has an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the Vancouver CFA Society.
