TELUS Return & Recycle Program for mobile handsets and accessories

TELUS is committed to being Canada's premier corporate citizen by being environmentally responsible in the communities where we live, work and serve. This commitment is demonstrated by our leadership in corporate social responsibility performance and reporting.

TELUS introduced the Return & Recycle Program in June 2005 to collect mobile handsets and accessories for recycling. The goal of the program is to divert as many phones and accessories possible from Canadian landfills. This ensures that the hazardous components of mobile phones are disposed in a responsible manner.

Through the Return & Recycle Program, we received more than 40,000 cell phones in 2007.

TELUS is continuing to enhance its environmental stewardship through a partnership with Tree Canada. TELUS, through Tree Canada, will plant a tree for each handset collected through the Return & Recycle Program.

How the program works

  1. Handset(s), 2Wire Gateway surge protectors (Alberta & BC clients only) and/or accessories are brought to one of our TELUS locations. To locate a store near you, go to telusmobility.com and enter your address to find a store closest to you. Make sure you deactivate and remove any personal information & SIM card (if applicable) from the phones prior to drop off.
Phones cannot be reclaimed once returned.
  2. The devices are shipped to a facilitation centre, where they are sorted and counted.
  3. The items are then sent to a third party recycling vendor, who will recycle the phones responsibly.

Eligibility

The program is free to everyone, not just TELUS clients. We accept all kinds of mobile devices, including phones, PDAs, air cards, batteries and accessories, irrespective of age, condition, where they were purchased or the network on which they were operating.
