Ensuring Your Future is Friendly and Safe
TELUS offers 911 dialing with all our commercially available Voice over Internet Protocol services. When you dial 911 with a VoIP service, your call will be connected to a TELUS operator who will then confirm your calling location in order to connect you to the appropriately located 911 Call Centre. You will be required to verbally provide your present location to the TELUS operator.
When dialing 911, you must adhere to the following steps:
1. Always provide the TELUS operator with your complete VoIP telephone number, including, the area code
2. Provide the TELUS operator with your location and the nature and location of the emergency you are reporting
3. Follow the instructions provided by both the TELUS operator and 911 Call Centre staff
4. Stay on the line with the operator, unless told otherwise
International Restrictions
If you are calling from outside of Canada, use a telephone which connects you to local emergency. The TELUS operator will not be able to connect your call to emergency personnel in an international location.
You Must Tell Us Where You Are
Remember that, unlike traditional telephone services, TELUS VoIP service is portable to any location with high speed Internet access. For example, you can have a Toronto number and receive calls in Vancouver. You can also take your equipment with you on a trip but, when you travel, unless your 911 call is made from inside Canada, the TELUS operator will not be able to route your call to the appropriate emergency personnel.
Service Outages may prevent successful 911 call completion
911 and TELUS Voice over IP Service MAY NOT function during an electrical power or broadband Internet provider outage.
