About Payphones

Consideration for payphone service is a feature of all architect designed buildings accessible to the public. Adequate access, illumination, visibility, and a convenient location are important design elements. Planning ahead will eliminate costly and intrusive rework in the future.

There are now new options for payphone services:

  1. TELUS Public Access is a complete payphone service provider, capable of meeting all your needs from installation to service and repair.
Call TELUS Public Access at 1-800-472-9773.
  2. Competitive Pay Telephone Service Providers. Other companies now also offer payphone service.

Wiring Guidelines
If TELUS is your payphone provider, TELUS would normally do all wiring and installation work.

If you use another company as your payphone provider, the payphone wiring would have to be connected to the main telephone network at a Demarcation Point

Payphone Location Layout
There are certain design specifications required to assist people with physical challenges.
  Visual Impairments: Protruding Objects
  Wheelchair Accessibility: Clear Floor Space
  Wheelchair Accessibility: Mounting Heights
