Network Modernization... to ensure reliability and customer experience
Equally important to the timely introduction of new technology in TELUS' network is the timely replacement of older technology. Over time, as the various components of the network progress through their natural lifecycle they will either become obsolete and be replaced by newer technology, or they will reach the end of their useful life, a point where the probability of maintenance or failure begins to rise.
The Network Modernization program at TELUS identifies which network components are approaching the end of their useful life and will be replaced. For example, copper cable with paper insulation has to be replaced sooner than copper cable with plastic insulation, particularly if it is exposed to the outside elements or water.
The Network Modernization program ensures TELUS' network remains reliable and without "weak spots" that could degrade service reliability to customers. It also reduces costs for TELUS in the long run because it keeps network maintenance and repair costs in check while reducing the wide variety of different components in the network.
