The benefits of this agreement are numerous. In addition to connecting communities, this agreement will result in operational efficiencies, streamlined service delivery and the creation of new services, saving the government, and British Columbians, time and money. Specifically, it outlines the following commitments:
- Connecting Communities: TELUS will Bridge the Digital Divide in 119 BC communities.
- Getting Connected: In each of these communities, TELUS will make affordable high speed connections available from a central office location, encouraging regional economic development by providing small local service providers and community groups with an attractive business model to extend high speed broadband to homes and businesses.
- Implementation of a next generation network in British Columbia that will enable the public sector to deliver better health care, education and e-government services. In addition to the network investment, TELUS has created a $12 million Technology Fund which will be used to seed the development of new services for the Public Sector.
- Better value service to government and citizens of BC: TELUS has lowered the unit costs for both current and extended contract terms and expanded network capacity.
- TELUS has simplified service delivery and improved service
