TELUS WORLD SKINS GAME RETURNS TO FAIRMONT BANFF SPRINGS IN 2011
Return to site of memorable 2006 event celebrated as TELUS continues support of popular summer Canadian golf tradition
Five years after hosting one of the most successful events in Skins Game history, the Fairmont Banff Springs will again host the world's best golfers this summer as the TELUS World Skins Game returns to Banff, Alberta. The event will take place Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26.
In August of 2006, Banff hosted one of the most memorable Skins Games ever as the majestic Fairmont Banff Springs course served as the backdrop for a celebration of the history of golf, featuring five stars of the game – Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Stephen Ames, John Daly and Sergio Garcia – each representing a different decade. Tickets for the event's first visit to Alberta in 2006 sold out in ten days as John Daly took the trophy with 9 skins for $210,000.
“TELUS is pleased to be continuing our support of this very popular Canadian sporting event, and to be able to bring the best in professional golf back to one of Canada's pre-eminent golf courses in one of the world's most popular destinations,” said Monty Carter, senior vice-president, TELUS Enterprise Solutions. “As one of the most beautiful golf courses on the planet, featuring some of the best players of the game with fans that have an unrivaled passion for golf, the Fairmont Banff Springs will once again be the perfect host for the TELUS World Skins Game.”
The TELUS World Skins Game is always a highlight of the Canadian summer sporting schedule for the country's most passionate golf fans, as well as the community that hosts it. Fulfilling its promise to "give where we live," the TELUS World Skins Game has raised more than $10 million since 2001 for a wide variety of important causes across Canada.
“This summer will mark the TELUS World Skins Game's 19th anniversary in Canada and the event's long-standing success is a testament to the partners that help make it happen each year,” said Danny Fritz, vice-president and co-managing director of IMG Canada. “That's especially true this year with the continued support of TELUS and the special opportunity to return to The Fairmont Banff Springs.”
Designed in 1928 by Canada's world-renowned golf course architect, Stanley Thompson, the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course is famous for its panoramic beauty and challenging layout set in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The course winds along the Bow River under the snow-capped peaks of Sulphur Mountain and Mount Rundle.
Owned and operated by IMG in Canada for 19 years, the TELUS World Skins Game has included many of the biggest names in the game including Jack Nicklaus, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples and Greg Norman.
