Vancouver, B.C. — TELUS and Motorola Canada today announced the exclusive Canadian availability of the Motorola i580, the first Motorola handset to bring together a stylish design, multimedia functionalities and ultra-ruggedness. The Motorola i580 runs on the TELUS Mike network, making it the ultimate communications tool for users who work and play hard.

“The TELUS Mike network offers the most innovative line-up of Push to TalkTM products and services available in Canada, making it the wireless communications tool of choice for Canadian business,” said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS vice-president of Products and Services. “The i580 is the essential handset for users who want advanced features such as Mike's Direct Connect™ Push To Talk capability and an MP3 player, but need a handset tough enough for the harshest operating conditions.”

Designed for use by clients in government, field-service, construction, transportation and the oil and gas industries, the Motorola i580 delivers powerful features including Global Positioning System (GPS), Mike's Talk Around™ for Push To Talk in remote areas without network coverage, and a tough design that meets strict military specifications for resistance to blowing rain, humidity, salt fog, solar radiation, low pressure, high and low temperatures, dust, shock and vibration. The phone's durable design and rubber over-mold can withstand the toughest day on the job or the most demanding outdoor activities for those who enjoy an active lifestyle.

For clients who also want to be entertained, the Motorola i580 includes advanced multimedia features such as a 1.3 megapixel camera with video, Bluetooth wireless technology for wireless data transfer of non-copyright protected materials and connectivity with compatible Bluetooth-enabled hands-free accessories. The i580 also supports an optional microSD memory card for storing music, video, photo and other files.

The most robust phone yet available on the TELUS Mike network, the i580 features the following new innovations:

  • Push To View Manager – lets clients control the i580's innovative Push To View features from one streamlined and intuitive menu. Push To View features are unique to select Mike handsets and allow clients to instantly send data, including photos and contact information, to other compatible phones using the Push To Talk button.
  • Push To View my Calendar – new to the i580, this feature allows clients to instantly send date book reminders to other i580 users.
  • Voice playback – offers enhanced support for the visually impaired with a simulated voice to guide users through phone menus, and through placing and receiving phone calls.
  • Front ported audio – provides improved sound quality through dual, front speakers, as opposed to the traditional single rear speaker.

The Motorola i580 is available to TELUS clients for as low as $199.99 on a three-year contract, or $349.99 without a contract.
