Darren Entwistle joined TELUS in 2000 as President and CEO, becoming the longest-serving CEO amongst incumbent telecommunication companies worldwide. Under Darren’s leadership, TELUS has evolved from a regional telephone company serving Western Canada into a national data and wireless leader. Notably, since the beginning of 2000 through to early 2017, TELUS has generated a total shareholder return of 373 per cent. This is number one in the world among its telecom incumbent peers and compares favourably to the total return for the S&P/TSX of 181 per cent and the MSCI World Telecom Services Index at negative 4 per cent. During the 14 multi-year time periods since 2000, for the years ending from 2004 until today, TELUS total shareholder return was number one in the world versus its incumbent peers 12 times and has surpassed the second place finisher by an average of 38 percentage points over those 12 periods. In addition, throughout the past 17 years, TELUS’ enterprise value has quadrupled to approximately $38 billion, EBITDA has doubled to $4.7 billion and earnings per share (EPS) has increased more than threefold to $2.37. During this same timeframe, the TELUS brand has increased in value from a few hundred million dollars to $4.7 billion today and is ranked #1 for brand reputation by Leger Marketing.

Darren has a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from Concordia University, an MBA in Finance from McGill University and a diploma in Network Engineering from the University of Toronto.  He has received honorary Doctorates of Law from McGill University, Concordia University, the University of Alberta and the University of Victoria.  Darren also holds an honorary Bachelor in Business Administration from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and is an Honorary Fellow of The Royal Conservatory in Toronto.

Darren received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2003) and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) in recognition as a Canadian business leader who has made exemplary contributions to the community and to Canada as a whole.
