TELUS has developed its own BC Electronic Equipment Stewardship Plan in order to adhere to the requirements set in the BC Recycling Regulation – Electronic and Electrical Product Category (B.C. Reg. 449/2004). As per the BC Recycling Regulation, a producer must submit a product stewardship plan in a manner and format satisfactory to the Director of the BC Ministry of Environment for the products within the product category that the producer sells, offers for sale, or distributes in British Columbia. TELUS has been collecting, refurbishing for reuse, reselling, and recycling electronics for many years now and this plan will allow these processes to be tracked more formally and reported annually to the Ministry. This plan will address rental and retail TELUS customer premise equipment as well as our internal use equipment. Mobile devices are addressed under the Canadian Wireless Telecommunication Association’s (CWTA) Stewardship Plan – Recycle My Cell.

TELUS has recently amended our BC Electronic Equipment Stewardship Plan for BC to include Phase 5 equipment (including but not limited to set-top boxes, modems and gateways). Additions and changes to this Plan will come into effect in July, 2012. As TELUS has been collecting and recycling all of this equipment for many years now, the current processes TELUS has in place have not changed due to this amendment. As a result stakeholders will note that the only significant change to the Plan has been the addition of Phase 5 equipment. Targeted recovery rates have been adjusted to reflect actual recovery rates based on our history and planned improvements.
Stakeholders are invited to view the plan below and submit any comments or questions to electronicequipmentconsultation@telus.com.
