Ensuring Your Future is Friendly and Safe
TELUS offers 911 dialing with all our commercially available Voice over Internet Protocol services. When you dial 911 with a VoIP service, your call will be connected to a TELUS operator who will then confirm your calling location in order to connect you to the appropriately located 911 Call Centre. You will be required to verbally provide your present location to the TELUS operator.
When dialing 911, you must adhere to the following steps:
If you are calling from outside of Canada, use a telephone which connects you to local emergency. The TELUS operator will not be able to connect your call to emergency personnel in an international location.
Remember that, unlike traditional telephone services, TELUS VoIP service is portable to any location with high speed Internet access. For example, you can have a Toronto number and receive calls in Vancouver. You can also take your equipment with you on a trip but, when you travel, unless your 911 call is made from inside Canada, the TELUS operator will not be able to route your call to the appropriate emergency personnel.
911 and TELUS Voice over IP Service MAY NOT function during an electrical power or broadband Internet provider outage.
