2017 Disaster Recovery Institute International Response and Recovery of the Year

Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2015 - November 2014

For the 6th consecutive year, TELUS has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers by Mediacorp. The judges selecting companies for this prestigious list highlighted a number of factors that contributed to TELUS being included. Notably, the award acknowledges our programs for recognition, pay and benefits, diversity, the advancement o fwomen, community investment and Work Styles.

Once of Canada’s Best Places to Work for Employees Living with Arthritis - September 2014

Arthritis Consumer Experts (ACE) selected TELUS as one of Canada's Best Workplaces for Employees Living with Arthritis in the large business category in recognition of our efforts to make the TELUS environment great for everyone, including employees with arthritis. Based on workplace insights shared by employees and company managers, TELUS stood out for best practices that take into account the unique concerns of employees living with the most common chronic disease in the workplace – arthritis.

Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards – October 2013

TELUS received a Silver Award at the Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards, a festival honouring the world’s finest corporate films, online media and TV documentaries, for the TELUS Innovation video.

 

The competition attracted some of the best talent from around the world. Global corporations, public relation agencies, public institutions, TV stations, production companies, multimedia companies, film producers and film makers vied for one of the coveted prizes.

 

TELUS’ award-winning video was produced by TELUS Studios and features Kaitlyn Cheung, a young Vancouver actor, talking about our history of innovation. The video was produced for and presented at the LG Ontario Science Centre Innovators’ Ball Gala in November 2012.

 

The Innovation video also received a platinum Hermes award for corporate image and a bronze Stevie award for internal/employee communication.

The Clean50 – September 2013

Delta Management Group named Andrea Goertz, senior vice-president and chief communications and sustainability officer, and Lloyd Switzer, senior vice-president, Network Transformation, Technology Strategy and Operations, among 50 individuals or small teams who have gone above and beyond to advance the cause of sustainability in Canada over the past two years. This elite group is called The Clean50.

Honourees are chosen by Delta Management, with advice from internal researchers and external advisors, from an initial pool of approximately 500 candidates. “The Clean50 come from such a broad background that only a few individuals are recognized within any given category. To be one of them is truly indicative of industry leadership in that category,” says Gavin Pitchford, chief talent officer, Delta Management. “The individuals we chose for the Clean50 this year are true leaders, and set a remarkable example for all Canadians.”

Andrea was chosen to receive this award for her outstanding leadership on many of TELUS’ corporate social responsibility initiatives, including the construction of a series of LEED-certified buildings to reduce the environmental impact of our real estate portfolio

Lloyd was selected as a member of the Clean16, which is comprised of one member from each of 16 categories of the larger Clean 50 group. Lloyd was singled out as the leader in the Technology, Telecom & Media category for establishing and helping TELUS work toward our energy reduction targets.

Procurement Leadership Award – May 2013

TELUS was honoured with a Procurement Leadership Award – the benchmark for recognizing companies around the world for procurement excellence. Our Procurement and Supply Chain Management (P&SCM) team won in the Learning and Development category, which celebrates companies that go above and beyond to develop and invest in their team.

 

TELUS was shortlisted among several large organizations, including Vodafone, Microsoft, IBM and HP. The P&SCM team was chosen for its innovative approaches to team member development, including:

  • Formal mentorship: team members pair with senior leaders to maximize knowledge transfer and encourage collaboration
  • Competency matrices system: team members evaluate themselves on 25 key strengths and required skills to assess growth and areas for improvement
  • Role shadowing: a shadowing program exposes team members to other areas of procurement and TELUS
  • Certification programs: offered by recognized institutes or in partnership with the University of Victoria
  • Supportive work climate: monthly video calls and the flexible Work Styles program drive engagement

 

The Procurement Leadership Awards program is run by the Procurement Leaders Network, an executive-led organization dedicated to exploring the latest industry intelligence.

Canadian Women in Communications Annual Awards – April 2013

Juggy Sihota, TELUS’ vice-president of Client Experience Strategy and Development, received the Leadership Excellence Award in the Trailblazer category from Canadian Women in Communications (CWC).

 

The CWC Annual Awards program honours Canadian leaders who have demonstrated outstanding achievements, leadership and support in the communications and technology sectors. Juggy’s award in the Trailblazer category recognizes her for being an agent of change by breaking new ground, removing old barriers and taking risks. 

 

Since joining TELUS in 1995, Juggy has taken on progressively senior roles with a variety of portfolios and teams such as sales, marketing, technology development, operations and strategy.

 

In her current role, Juggy has played an instrumental role in Customers First, our number one priority that began in her team in 2010. She is also responsible for the development and execution of our Client Experience strategy for consumer services such as TV, High Speed Internet, home phone and wireless. Juggy leads a 170-person team and oversees major transformation programs such as the Contact Centre Evolution program involving overhaul of the call centre system architecture for more than 7,000 agents.

 

Juggy embraces our ‘we give where we live’ philosophy, serving on the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Women’s Leadership Advisory Council.  She was a director on the TELUS Vancouver Community Board from 2008 to 2011 and the Lower Mainland regional chair of TELUS Day of Giving in 2012.

Influential Woman in Business – March 2013

Jill Schnarr, vice-president of Community Affairs, was named an Influential Woman in Business by Business in Vancouver. The Influential Women in Business Awards celebrate women who are professionally successful and influential in the community and their industry.

 

Jill and her team of 28 champion our numerous initiatives to give where we live. Since 2006, she has led national community investment at TELUS including 11 TELUS Community Boards, community grants, community and cause marketing, charitable sponsorships, strategic community investment communications, Team TELUS Cares, team member and retiree volunteerism and humanitarian relief.

Thanks in large part to Jill’s strategic vision and business acumen, TELUS has developed a strong cause marketing component within our community investment portfolio to better align to and support our business objectives.  For example, during our TV for Good and Phones for Good campaigns, we give $25 to a local project for every new TELUS customer. Since the campaigns started in 2009, TELUS has given $9.5 million to 60 projects in communities such as Victoria, B.C., and Lethbridge, Alberta. Together, with the support of our customers, we have helped make communities stronger with new parks, improved healthcare and updated libraries.

British Columbia’s Forty Under 40 – January 2013
