Hockey Education Reach Out Society (H.E.R.O.S.)
H.E.R.O.S. is a registered Canadian charitable organization that empowers children of diverse ethnicity from socio-economic challenged neighbourhoods through ice hockey and education. Using the sport as a catalyst to promote positive behaviour by focusing on skills development, self-esteem enhancement, team building and leadership training, H.E.R.O.S. has worked with more than 3,200 at-risk youth in local communities across Canada since it started in 1999 in Vancouver’s downtown east side.
H.E.R.O.S. now operates 11 programs involving more than 400 children in seven Canadian cities, including Vancouver, BC’s Sunshine Coast, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. TELUS has supported H.E.R.O.S. since 2004 and given over $1.5 million in support to help H.E.R.O.S. continue to get the kinds of results that create the leaders of tomorrow from the youth of today.
“Since 2004, H.E.R.O.S. has grown from teaching kids in downtown Vancouver to a nationwide charity organization. Our growth has been powered by TELUS and their generosity both in terms of money and expertise. With corporate support like this, we can make a difference in our communities.”
