Our community investment strategy is anchored in the belief that the key to keeping our communities healthy is ensuring today’s youth are educated, empowered and inspired to create positive change and reach their full potential. The following outlines the rationale behind our donations to community initiatives and how community organizations can apply for a TELUS community grant.
Our rationale – empowering a generation of opportunity
Technological change and new digital infrastructure are stimulating economic growth at a fast pace. However, many people – especially children and youth – are often excluded from these new technologies due to a lack of opportunity, lack of education, ill health and social imbalance. With a focus on at-risk youth and technological or social innovation, we work with community partners to help educate and empower youth to improve their quality of life and to enable them to reach their full potential.
How we direct our funding – the role of our Community Boards
There are 11 Canadian TELUS Community Boards and three International Boards that provide funding to local grassroots organizations in major centres where TELUS operates. Our Community Boards are located in Victoria, Vancouver, Thompson Okanagan, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Rimouski, Quebec City, Atlantic Canada, the Philippines, Guatemala and El Salvador.
Our Community Boards bring together influential community leaders with TELUS team members to strategically make local funding decisions. These decisions focus on addressing specific community needs and partnering with local charities to help find solutions for existing or emerging issues. These boards review charitable funding applications and make decisions designed to deliver the most impact on the local community.
Since their inception in 2005, TELUS Community Boards have donated $35.75 million, supporting more than 2,800 grassroots community projects and continue to positively impact the lives of more than 2.1 million youth annually.
Additionally, TELUS has eight Community Action Teams that make a positive regional impact in rural communities across Canada: Vancouver Island, Sea to Sky, BC North, BC South, Alberta North, Alberta Central, Alberta South and Ontario.

Our team members are passionate about giving back
TELUS and our team members are passionate about giving back to the communities where we live, work and serve. Through the Team TELUS Charitable Giving program, TELUS matches donations made to eligible Canadian registered charities, by team members, retirees and board members, dollar for dollar. When our team members and retirees volunteer their time, TELUS recognizes and rewards these efforts through the Dollars for Doers program.
Since 2000, TELUS, our team members and retirees have proudly donated $300 million and 4.8 million hours to charitable organizations, making a significant impact from coast-to-coast.
