funding guidelines

At TELUS, we give where we live.  Each year TELUS contributes to thousands of organizations across Canada.   We choose those organizations that best meet our funding priorities and guidelines.  In order to maximize the impact we can make in our communities, we focus on applications which clearly demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Your organization must be a registered charity with Canada Revenue Agency as you will be required to issue a tax receipt
  • Must align with one of our giving focus areas in arts and culture, education and sport, or health and well-being in our environment, as well as have a youth and/or innovative use of technology component
  • A stated community priority that enhances the quality of life for many community members
  • Leadership, innovation and collaboration with other community organizations
  • Presents clearly defined and measurable outcomes
  • Applicant must be financially well-administered and provide services and activities without regard to race, religion, creed, sex or sexual orientation
  • Priority will be given to organizations that demonstrate a passion for the innovative use of technology in addressing issues that are priorities in your community

Organizations and programs that would be considered ineligible:

  • Religious or sectarian organizations (except where they represent non-denominational community and social support services)
  • Political organizations and candidates, individuals and for-profit organizations
  • Competitive sports teams
  • Advocacy or special interest groups

As a general rule, TELUS community investment focuses on educational programs therefore requests for the following are considered ineligible:

  • Silent auction items, door prizes or event giveaways
  • General donations to community foundations
  • Endowments or debt reduction campaigns
  • Operating costs not specific to an educational program, including utilities or overhead salaries
  • In-kind donations such as local or long-distance telephone services, or reduced telecommunication rates
  • Goodwill advertising, travel expenses, field trips, tours, ticket purchases for fundraising activities, retroactive requests, conferences, seminars, workshops, beauty pageants, wilderness adventure activities, or events and activities that take place outside of Canada.
