Rimouski community board
List of Community Board Members
The TELUS Rimouski Community Board was officially launched in October of 2005 by Hugues St-Pierre, former president of TELUS Québec. This dynamic board, led by Hugues St-Pierre, allocates funding to innovative programs which involve youth and/or technology in Rimouski and the surrounding areas. In 2008, its annual donation budget is $600,000. Charitable organizations whose focus is in the areas of arts and culture, education and sport, or health and well-being in our environment are invited to apply using our online application form.
The following are examples of programs that the Rimouski board has funded in our focus areas:
- History and Inheritance at the School Program is an online program developed and produced by students from Élisabeth-Turgeon school. This virtual exhibit provides interesting and often unknown information about the history of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. This project enables students to learn about the history of communication technology as well as how to design a web page and create a virtual exhibit.
- Ferme pédagogique Marichel, the learning farm, located in Sainte-Agathe-de-Lotbinière (Chaudières-Appalaches), offers educational programs through summer camps, farm classes and family visits. The programs focus on building an appreciation of agricultural lifestyle and the contribution they make to communities across Canada. This program also teaches the importance of developing good environment friendly living habits.
- Project RE-PAIRS offers educational workshops that promote the development of parental skills. This program directly impacts children's development in literacy, reading and nutrition. These workshops cover many themes such as language, reading awareness, discipline, eating habits, etc. More than 200 marginalized families from the Témiscouata and Basques (Bas-Saint-Laurent) regions have benefited from the "RE-PAIRS" program.
