List of Community Board Members

The TELUS Edmonton Community Board was officially launched in March 2005.  This knowledgeable board, led by Dr. Robert Westbury, allocates funding to innovation programs which involve youth and/or technology in Edmonton. In 2009, the annual donation budget is $500,000. Charitable organizations whose focus is in the areas of arts and culture, education and sport, or health and well-being in our environment are invited to apply using our online application form.

The following are examples of programs that the Edmonton board has funded in our focus areas:

  • Chrysalis an Alberta Society for Citizens with Disabilities - Therapeutic Art Program This program provides an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to use art as a means of communication and self expression. It is also used as a therapeutic intervention tool that allows participants to relate their own life experiences, personal challenges and celebrations through various forms of media. Using imagery, colour, and shape as part of this creative therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings may be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate.
  • University of Alberta - Camp fYrefly Leadership Program Camp fYrefly is Canada's largest leadership retreat for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified, two-spirited, queer, and allied (LGBTTQ&A) youth. The camp is designed to help youth develop the leadership skills and resiliency necessary for them to become change agents in their schools, families, and communities. Camp fYrefly participants vow to help fight against discrimination, prejudice, and oppression in all of its many forms, and to help others in their time of greatest need.
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Edmonton - Healthy for Life - Cool Moves Program Healthy for Life - Cool Moves is an innovative collaborative approach to promoting healthy choices and enhancing the health outcomes of children and youth. Participants learn the whats, whys, and hows of healthy eating and active living. Kids receive incentives, track their healthy choices, accumulate points, and earn prizes like active out trips. They are encouraged and supported to Eat Smart, Play Cool, and are empowered to make positive changes in their families, communities and most importantly their own lives.
