TELUS acquires market-leading bill integration firm

Burnaby, BC - TELUS today announced its acquisition of the business of a widely recognized leader in telecommunication bill management.

Calgary-based CAG-TAMS Inc., whose customers include some of Canada's largest corporations, provides software that integrates and manages invoices from multiple telecommunications vendors. For example, a company with multiple locations and different long distance, cellular, local and data service suppliers can receive a single, detailed statement for all its telecommunication charges. The software also provides extensive cost analysis, inventory management and the capability to link to the customer's accounting system to allocate costs.

The operations of Electronic Billing Solutions Ltd. (EBS), an affiliated company of CAG-TAMS Inc., are also a part of this acquisition. EBS provides bureau services to customers wishing to outsource this invoice management capability.

Under the terms of the transaction, TELUS acquired the assets and intellectual property of CAG-TAMS, Inc. and EBS, and has retained their staff and management team. TELUS is currently in the process of establishing a presence in Toronto, which will complement existing offices in Calgary and Edmonton.

"The CAG-TAMS software offers more functionality than any other telecom invoice management package currently available in Canada," said Ian Mansfield, TELUS executive vice-president and president of TELUS Communications Inc. "We also see a great fit for CAG-TAMS within our e-commerce and electronic billing initiatives at TELUS."

TELUS is currently working with the CAG-TAMS team on a new release of a Web-enabled version of the CAG-TAMS software.

Through its alliance with U.S.-based GTE, TELUS intends to use CAG-TAMS to pursue new international opportunities as an Application Service Provider (ASP) of electronic bill management solutions.

TELUS is Canada's second largest telecommunications company and provides a full range of advanced communication services and products connecting Canadians with the world. TELUS shares trade on the Toronto and Montreal stock exchanges under the stock symbols T (Common Voting) and T.A (Common Non-Voting).
