TELUS closes deal to acquire Williams Communications Canada

Burnaby, B.C. - TELUS Corporation has concluded the transaction to acquire Williams Communications Canada Inc. (WCCI) from Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Williams Communications LLC. The transaction has also been approved by regulators. The purchase price is not being disclosed.

The former WCCI operations will become TELUS National Systems under TELUS Client Solutions based in Toronto. TELUS Client Solutions provides integrated e-business, telecommunications and IT services for large private and public sector enterprises.

"TELUS is moving quickly to integrate the skills and national capabilities WCCI brings us to enhance the services we provide our business customers," said Darren Entwistle, president and CEO, TELUS.

WCCI sells, services and installs communications equipment in the business customer market. Three-quarters of WCCI's customers and employees are in Central Canada. The company had revenues of $130 million in 2000.
