Prestigious ranking is the latest in a series of accolades recognizing TELUS's commitment to employees, customers and shareholders
TELUS one of top 10 companies to work for in Canada, says annual R.O.B. survey
Burnaby, B.C. - TELUS Corp. has been recognized as one of Canada's top 10 companies to work for in a prestigious annual survey published in Report on Business magazine. Using a thorough and extensive screening process, the survey, compiled by Hewitt Associates for the Globe and Mail, compared employment conditions at 161 companies across the country.
Confidence among employees in the company's leadership, culture and values, helped TELUS gain its first ever placing on this list of top employers, and enabled it to achieve a coveted top 10 position.
"We are honoured to be included in the top 10 on this year's list. This national recognition highlights the commitment we have made to ensuring TELUS is a great place to work," said Darren Entwistle, TELUS president and CEO.
"This significant accolade is an exciting extension of TELUS's proud history of achievement. We fully expect to build on this level of accomplishment with our future growth plans."
TELUS, the only Canadian telecommunications company that made it onto this year's ranking, was awarded a best-in-class position in the R.O.B. survey, based on three assessment criteria. Companies were judged on a comprehensive questionnaire completed by 350 randomly chosen employees at each company; a human resources practices survey; and detailed feedback from the company's CEO on the organization's philosophy in valuing its employees.
The R.O.B. ranking is the latest in a series or recent awards and recognitions for TELUS.
The company was recently chosen as B.C.'s most respected company by BCBusiness magazine. The survey, administered by Ipsos-Reid and published by the magazine in its December 2001 issue, collated factors such as the way the company treats employees and how well it listens to the concerns of the public.
TELUS was also named in the 2002 edition of Canada's Top 100 Employers as a leading company for working conditions, benefits and opportunities for advancement. TELUS was selected as one of the country's best employers from a survey of more than 5,000 businesses, and recognized as an industry leader in attracting and retaining high-quality employees. The list was also published in Maclean's magazine in November 2001.
On the international front, TELUS was the only North American telecommunications company to earn a spot on the Dow Jones Corporate Sustainability Index in the Fixed Line Communications category. The survey, conducted by Sustainable Asset Management Group, assessed TELUS on economic, environmental and social factors. Companies on the list are recognized for actively leading their industries and setting industry-wide best practices in the areas of strategy, innovation, governance, meeting shareholder demands and interacting with employees and other stakeholders.
Other awards TELUS recently received include the Gold award in the telecommunications category of the Annual Report Awards presented in December by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the National Post. The purpose of the awards is to recognize the best corporate reporting models in Canada.
In addition, Marketing Magazine selected TELUS as one of Canada's "Ten Marketers That Mattered." TELUS was commended for its fresh marketing approach in its campaign entitled "The Future Is Friendly."
TELUS received the accolade for its unique nature-themed creative, its highly recognizable purple-and-green logo colours and its positioning line across all six of its business units, providing the campaign with a consistent brand approach.
Also in mid-December, Darren Entwistle was named B.C. Businessman for 2001 by Market Facts for his extensive achievements in the industry. This award recognized his leadership role in uncovering a "national footprint for wireless" for TELUS, and helping the company break into markets in Central and Eastern Canada.
"It is a wonderful testament to the efforts of all TELUS team members that our achievements have been recognized locally, nationally and internationally with these prestigious awards," said Entwistle. "These indicators show that, in growing our business, we continue to remain fully focused on our key stakeholder groups: our valued employees, customers and shareholders."
