TELUS executive Karen Radford named Woman of the Year by Canadian Women in Communications

Montreal, Quebec – Karen Radford, President of TELUS Québec and Partner Solutions has been named Woman of the Year by the Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) organization. Karen is among four women who have been recognized for their leadership, support of the advancement of women and their contribution to the Canadian communications industry.

Karen has assumed progressively more challenging roles over the years and each time her talent and business acumen have produced outstanding results and allowed her to thrive as a leader in an incredibly competitive communications industry.”

In her role as president of TELUS Québec, Karen Radford leads a dynamic team that provides business and consumer customers in the province with innovative voice, wireless and entertainment solutions. Over the last three years, she has also led TELUS Partner Solutions, a team that offers diverse telecommunications services to local, North American and international clients and partners.

Karen is a national advisor to Youth in Motion and Women in Motion, leads the TELUS Montreal Community Board and serves a member of the Board of Trustees of the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation. In addition to being a founding member of the Women in Leadership Foundation, Karen is driving an initiative at TELUS to increase the number of women in non-traditional and senior leadership positions. Balancing the demands of her executive position and her community activities, Karen is also a mother of two young children.

Karen has held leadership positions in almost every facet of the Canadian telecommunications industry. She joined TELUS in 1998 where she assumed her first vice-presidential posting, followed by a series of escalating and pivotal leadership positions as the company embarked on an ambitious growth strategy.

Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her interpersonal skills, industry expertise, and natural ability to deliver exceptional results and inspire others to succeed. In 2005, she was named one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40. Karen has also been named One of the Most Powerful Women in Canada by the Women's Executive Network for the past three consecutive years, a title she shares with fellow TELUS executives Janet Yale, executive vice-president Corporate Affairs, and Judy Shuttleworth, executive vice-president Human Resources.

Karen will be officially presented with the Woman of the Year Award at the CWC Annual Awards Gala to be held in Ottawa this evening. She is the second TELUS executive to hold this title; Janet Yale was named Woman of the Year in 2001.
