Majority of unionized employees actively working in Alberta
Auditing procedures performed independently by third-party chartered accounting firmVancouver, B.C. – TELUS is today announcing information regarding the number of its unionized employees actively working in Alberta. This information was subjected to auditing procedures and tests, agreed to by TELUS, that were conducted independently by the chartered accounting firm, Ernst & Young LLP (E&Y).The E&Y procedures were performed on TELUS figures as of August 31, 2005, which show that 2,880 Alberta based unionized employees were active on the TELUS payroll system and which represented 52.6 per cent of Alberta bargaining unit employees. As of August 16, 2005, 2,715 Alberta based unionized employees were active, which represented 48.8% of the Alberta bargaining unit employees. The August 16 and 31st results reflect the increasing proportion of Alberta bargaining unit members deciding to cross TWU picket lines. The labour disruption commenced on July 21, 2005.These auditing procedures and tests were performed by E&Y under the standards established by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) for reports describing the results from applying specified auditing procedures to financial information other than financial statements. The procedures performed by E&Y provide independent evidence relating to the number of Alberta based unionized employees active on the TELUS payroll system. This was conducted in accordance with CICA Section 9100 as a specified auditing procedures engagement.
