Getting hired at TELUS
Here are the steps that you can expect to go through when being considered for a position in one of our Leadership Development Programs:
Online Application
To apply for a position at TELUS, please visit our website at www.telus.com/careers. All applications must come via this site in order to be considered. This will provide us with details of your relevant skills and experience. As part of the online application process, you will also be asked to attach a copy of your resume as well as transcripts (we accept unofficial for those of you who have not yet graduated). It is important to complete this application correctly to ensure it can be submitted successfully.
Once your application and resume have been submitted, you will receive an automatic message confirming this. Your application will be reviewed by a TELUS Recruiter and depending on your skills and experience, you may be contacted for an interview.
Phone Interview
At TELUS we receive applications from across the country and hire into multiple provinces, so many of our first interviews with applicants are by phone.
This first conversation will determine your suitability and availability for employment at TELUS. It will also give you an opportunity to ask questions about the program and process.
Your application and initial interview results are then submitted to the Hiring Manager for their review.
Face to Face Interview
The interview format with Hiring Managers can vary depending on the program you are being considered for. You may be asked to participate in one or more behavioural-based interviews with the Hiring Manager and often some team members. If you are applying on a technical role, expect that there will be some technical questions asked of you.
This interview is normally conducted in person. If need be, this stage of the interview process can also be conducted via video conference.
This interview is a great opportunity for you to better understand the position you are applying for, and hear from current team members what it’s like to work at TELUS.
Background/Security
The final stage in the hiring process is to conduct reference checks and security clearance.
You will be asked to complete some forms which give us your permission to initiate security and reference checks. We will share this with our background screening partner so they can contact your references and commence the security clearance. We cannot proceed with an offer until this step has been completed.
Offer
Once all of the steps above have been completed and if you have been identified as the successful candidate for the position, you will be given a formal offer of employment.
Your offer may first be presented to you verbally over the phone by the recruiter to ensure that you accept the terms and conditions of the offer.
You will then be sent an offer package via email that will provide more details of the offer. There will also be a deadline for responding to our offer, so please be aware of that when reviewing the details.
Onboarding
TELUS provides all new employees with an Orientation session on their first two days of employment. Attending the Welcome to TELUS session will ensure that you have the information you need to be successful when you first start at TELUS. You will be provided more details on Orientation once you have sent back your accepted offer.
