What is Finance?
The TELUS Finance team plays an integral role in all aspects of our business - supporting our internal clients, focusing on future opportunities and creating value for investors, clients and team members. Our Finance team has been recognized among the best in the world. We've received numerous financial reporting and corporate governance awards, including the awards of excellence for Best Annual Report in 2007 (CICA), Best Corporate Governance Disclosure in 2006 (CICA) and Best Annual Report in the world in 2005.
Our Finance team is comprised of a variety of teams including Controllers (Corporate and Business Unit), Corporate Accounting & Financial Reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance (SOX), Treasury, Corporate Strategic Planning, Mergers and Acquisitions, Financial Operations, Risk Management and Internal Audit, Revenue Assurance, Investor Relations, Regulatory Government Affairs, and Tax.
The Financial Management Development Programs
Are you a business graduate looking for a management career in Accounting or Finance? Come join our exciting and dynamic Financial Management Development Program (FMDP). We have two program streams that provide three work rotations and the opportunity to learn about the many different facets of Finance. Both program streams are 3 years in length. If you are interested in professional accreditation, our streams also provide financial support towards obtaining a professional designation.
Our Accounting/Finance Professional (AFP) stream will support you in obtaining a designation such as a CMA, CGA, CFA, and PMP.
Our CA Training Program will support you in obtaining your CA designation. TELUS was proud to be one of the few companies invited to apply to become a CA Training Office. TELUS was the first company in industry in Canada to be approved as a CA Training Office in more than one province: i.e. BC, Alberta and Ontario. We have paired up with Deloitte for the CASB modules, so all CA’s will be able to study and go through the same process to assist them in passing the UFE.
Rotations
Over the course of either program, you will be assigned to several different rotations, each lasting approximately one year. You will also be assigned a mentor to provide personal advice and career coaching as you start your career with TELUS. Rotations are assigned based on a number of considerations including personal interests, business needs, strengths and areas for development For our CA students, all rotations are approved by the CA Institute and are designed to support the competency requirements for your designation. In addition, CA students will be assigned a CA Counselling Member in TELUS who will personally mentor and assist you in your pursuit of the CA designation.
Depending on the rotations available in your location, you may be involved in operation, analysis, performance measurement, financial modeling, reporting, design, and implementation of processes, procedures, policies and systems, for to the following areas:

For the CA Program, depending on which province you are located in, the rotation options include:
- BC- Internal Audit, SOX, Corporate Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis and Treasury
- AB- Internal Audit, SOX, Business Solutions Finance and Taxation
- ON- Internal Audit, SOX, Business Solutions Controls Impact Assessment, Business Solutions Finance, Consumer Solutions Finance and Revenue Assurance
Upon graduation from either of the programs, you may join one of the teams where you had previously worked, work on short term special projects or assignments, or explore new areas of the Finance team where you would like to further develop your skills.
What does it take?
To be a successful candidate, you must possess highly-developed analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills. We're looking for someone who displays initiative and has a passion for telecommunications and financial management. Creativity, innovation, maturity, flexibility, and leadership in how you approach your work everyday are also essential. Our Accounting/Finance stream primarily focuses on hiring commerce and business students interested in pursuing their CMA, CGA, CFA or other Finance designations while our CA Training Program focuses on hiring commerce and business students interested in pursuing their CA designation in industry. It is recommended that applicants for the CA program stream in BC and AB have completed all of the CASB (CA School of Business) pre-requisite courses and those applicants in Ontario have completed the ICAO (Institute of Chartered Accountants Ontario) pre-requisite courses in order to be considered.
